Dovetail Down the House or Stop Raining Stop Raining

we are only waiting to be submerged back into something

into only, into bedtime. I thought all angels had missing eyes.

I thought all legs were bare. In the morning, I wash my hair

with lotion. Don’t eat. Don’t like the wolf.

My room in the evening is filled

with witches. Every angel has at least one eye missing,

usually more. There is only so much we can’t

handle. There is only so much we can’t—

there is no leaving—- no building

feels black without burning.
