NIGHT IN PURGATORY

We step outside to awaken God’s mercy.

In four days the cat dies.

This path’s mistaken for a rope.

How did we become addicted?

The rain falls for 20 years.

The cat drinks from a bowl of marigolds.

An old man carries an armful of snakes.           .

There are no flowers to cut your heart.

The path before you is mistaken for a rope.

Nothing’s the same.

A housefly is trapped in a fist.

Let’s hope the giant likes us.
