Q: In Honorary Astronaut, there are times when I feel the poems almost go over the top in their enthusiasm, but there’s this sense of sincerity that seems to make them work anyway. :: 8/2009 :: “My Very Me,” an interview conducted by Gregory Lawless.

Q: I could imagine these poems—so conversational and urgent—being spoken to someone on a bus ride, on a first date, or in an elevator. Could you tell me why so many of your poems take the shape of such candid emergencies?
