I’ve hit some kind of limit - you can continue posting to the 8/12 entry but I’m not sure if anyone can see them except me!

If you feel compelled to keep talking about this issue - & of course we should - please start a new stream in response here.  Right here.  Click the headline for the post & have at it.

Oh, yeah, I know Dan--sorry if I wasn't being clear...but the first few issues Jeff & I did were not so awesome gender-wise. Issue 14 is 8 women / 14 men, and whether that was an artifact of the Nester era or a condition of publishing in general, or the newness of online journals, I dunno... On the whole we were 218 contributors of whom 124 or 57% were women. Our numbers for LGBTQ writers and writers of color, not so impressive--like 3% and 7% respectively. Or so my slapdash math indicates--and of course I'm not always right about how people identify...there were even a couple issues where I assumed men were women before we received their proper bios. All our ratios improved over time...our last issue was more like 18% of color, and whoo, 61% laydeez. Which I think of as good 'cause if there are journals underpublishing women, someone has to overpublish.

Nate, that's a really surprisingly high rate of response from men! Wow, I wonder if it's typical...I didn't solicit enough at LPZ to run the numbers for ours...

Okay, I'm overcaffeinated--I hope those #s were of interest.
xoxo,
Danielle

One addendum I'd like to add by way of helping reach out to women poets to submit is that there are more than a few women-oriented listservs out there; La Petite Zine and Unpleasant Event Schedule benefited a lot from word spreading there.

There's http://usm.maine.edu/wompo/, which is the Women's Poetry Listserv, a mother's list whose URL escapes me, as well as the Pussipo collective http://pussipo.blogspot.com/.
